Guiding the Salesian educational mission worldwide
"Our mission is rooted in the gentle strength of St. Francis de Sales. Every young person entrusted to our care is a gift, and through education we open doors to a future filled with hope, faith, and purpose. I invite you to join us in this sacred work of forming the next generation of leaders."
Fr. John Smith was elected Superior General in 2022, bringing over 25 years of experience in Salesian education, formation, and leadership. He has served as a teacher, school principal, and provincial superior, and is known for his visionary approach to Catholic education and his deep commitment to the Salesian charism.
"Salesian education is a journey of the heart. We believe in accompanying each student with patience, joy, and uncompromising respect. Our schools are communities where faith meets reason, and where every child discovers their unique vocation to love and serve."
Fr. Michael David has served as Education Councillor since 2020, overseeing the educational mission of the Oblates across all provinces. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership and has extensive experience in curriculum development, teacher formation, and strategic planning for Catholic school systems.
The leadership framework that supports our global mission
The Superior General is the highest authority in the OSFS congregation, elected by the General Chapter. He provides spiritual leadership, strategic direction, and ensures fidelity to the Salesian charism across all provinces and ministries.
The General Council, composed of elected and appointed members, assists the Superior General in the governance of the congregation. Councillors oversee specific areas including education, formation, finance, and mission development.
Each geographic province is led by a Provincial Superior who oversees the implementation of the Salesian mission at the local level. Provincials coordinate schools, parishes, and pastoral activities within their regions.
Each Salesian school and institution is led by a principal or director who ensures the day-to-day operation aligns with the Salesian educational philosophy. They are supported by administrative teams and faculty committed to holistic formation.
The formation team is responsible for the ongoing spiritual and professional development of Oblates and lay educators. They organise retreats, workshops, and training programmes that deepen the understanding and practice of Salesian education.
The mission of Salesian education is carried forward not only by Oblates but also by thousands of lay teachers, administrators, and volunteers who share the Salesian vision and work alongside the religious to form young hearts and minds.
